Need Help ASAP 4.2L high idle.

OK we got a big trip planned this weekend and we are going to take my buddys truck for better gas milage. He installed a high flow air intake and now it idles at like 2000 rpm when just sitting still. We tried cleaning the plug ends to the MAF and made sure there was no leeks on the system. He bought a new throttle postion senser and it didnt help. The truck is a 99 model and a 5 speed at that. 4.2trimble I know your here somewere help us out someone.

You will have better luck posting in the V6 forum. My first suggestion is put the stock intake back on it.

He screwed up the install in some way.

Check throttle linkage to make certain the plate closes all the way at no throttle.

Check for vacuum and intake leaks.

Make certain the cruise cable isn't pulling on the throttle.

Good luck. If all else fails, reinstall the old intake as suggested.

oohh snap I just remembered he said he put a thottle body spacer on it also... I bet the extra space between there is keeping the throttle cable tight and keeping the blade open. Ill have to check that out.

tell him to take that TB spacer off, its been dyno proven that a spacer of the V6s actually cause a loss of power.
