Lousy Fuel Filter Line Design
That's what i do - Forward , then yank that puppy back.
BTW- Good luck getting that third hand in there - Use that one to hold your Cig

just changed mine last saturday. the inlet from the tank took 10 seconds. the oulet took 30 min. I had the tool put it was a pain. You have to push on the fuel line one way and the oppisite way with the tool as hard as you can. I felt a little click and it slide right off after yelling at it for 20 min.
Like "Req" advised, I used the plastic tool w/ WD-40 and it finally released. The metal tool wouldn't work. The clip's going to have be replaced soon. It was a nightmare trying to get it to release.
Simple job that turned into a pain.

This is the best tool for the job IMO -

There's 3 pieces and they rust on there pretty good at times. This filter came off a friends truck. As you can tell - It pi$$ ed me off a little.
The clips your trying to release look like this -
heres what i did today taking the fuel tank out today so i could get to my fuel pump the little plastic disk type release tool broke and the closest parts store to me is 26mi so i improvised. its the cut off end of a crazy glue tube with a 1/4" or so section removed from the side it worked like a charm in fact ill most likly keep it in my drawer and not worry about replaceing the little disk thing
sorry tried to add pic but i still havnt figured that part out yet
