Motor started to knock
Motor started to knock
Well i just changed the oil started her up and it started knocking. It doesn't start knocking right away but like 10 seconds into startup it will start knocking. I hope it doesn't get any worse cause i cant afford the 3400 dollar bill right now maybe i will try a heavier oil. When i first purchased this truck i put in 10w40 but i later found out it needs 10w30 so my second oil change i put in 10w30 maybe i will try the 10w40 again see if it helps, Any opinions.
I used a Motor craft oil filter. Another weird thing when i was changing the oil there was no oil in the filter could not starting the truck in the morning before i did the oil change do this?
no oil in the filter when you went to change it?? thats not good at all. what kind of pressure are u getting?? i had the same symptoms on my dakota. i was getting lousy pressure and was ticking and making all kinds of noises.you can try different weight but.. if that doesnt work you might have to drop the pan. turned out my screen was partially clogged with crap. it had 140k so....but definetely start with a real pressure gauge and see what u get.

Well i changed the oil i put in 20w50 checked the oil filter since i haven't started it in 4 1/2 hours but there was oil in the filter it was full so i put it back on started her up the knocking went away and i have the tapping back. Which i can deal with hopefully in the future when i get some money i can replace the motor but until then the f150 lives.
The last time I seen no oil in the filter it was to late - The motor blew. Actually that's the only time I ever seen that. The oil pump was good, but the pickup screen was totally plugged.

It looked worse than it does in this pic - I scrapped allot of the sh^t off before I took this photo.

Yea i know same here, I had told my dad about it and he said he would help me out on a motor if it does go. Hopefully it doesn't tho but o well that life
jbrew i took it out again and this time it had oil in it and it was filled so i have now clue whats going on
Geeez... I don't think I would run it until I found out what's going on. How hard is it to pull the pan on that model ? Do you have to drop the axle ?
I would have to check the screen personally - If it's clear, I would toss that pump in a minute lol. I think it will blow in the very near future running it the way it is IMO .
