Why do you just want to change the filter?? I would expect you to lose around a litre of oil.

My fiance's dad has a Fram in his truck, and they're notorious for creating a barking noise when the engine is started. Unfortunately his truck is doing that. He's only got 1k on his Mobil 1, so I'd like to just drop the filter and switch it out with a Motorcraft.

Can you just drain the oil into a sterile/clean container then replace the filter and put the oil back in? That way you wouldn't lose any.

you could, but you would probably lose about as much oil draining it, and attempting to repour it as you would by just changing the filter.

The only oil that you SHOULD loose is the oil that is in the filter! So probably just under a quart!.........

Why didn't he buy a Mobil 1 filter when he bought his Mobil 1 oil?

These filters arent that big, you may lose half a quart. Either way it wont cost much to replace what little you do lose.
