do i have the spark plug problem?
fballkk11 did not indicate whether he/she has a 4.2, 4.6, or 5.4. Only the 5.4 in 97 has COP ignition, the other 2 have conventional coil packs and wires.
At 150K you are WAY overdue for a spark plug change - I'm not surprised in the least that there are misfire codes.
Change your spark plugs, it doesn't matter what engine you have. Odds are very good your misfiring will go away and your truck will run MUCH better.

Thanks i appreciate it, thats what my old man told me but just wanted to get someone elses opinion on it. i will update after i change the plugs, might not be till the weekend, to busy with school and work. but thanks again.
I had a tick that slowly came into play on my 04 F150. I even took it into the stealership, and the service manager said it was the injectors and that all the 3V engines do it. A few months go by, and I got a flashing CEL (misfire for sure), thought it was a faulty COP or plug, so I took it into the same stealership as I popped into before. They found the #2 cyl was totally dead and said it'd cost about $8-9K for them to pop a new engine in. I found that the HLA had siezed which pushed the FF into the cam, which all ended up getting chewed up and popped the intake valve's spring and retainer off.
This was after a lifetime of Mobile One or Royal Purple full syn 5W-20 and motorcraft filters.
I am now swapping in an '06 engine with the revised valvetrain ( or so I've read) and only 11K on the clock.

Has anyone seen a Motorcraft plug ware out to the point of no sparkage ? I'm just curious , I never have.
fballkk11 - Take a picture of that plug in #2 when you pull it; if you get the chance, I would like to see one with that kind of mileage on it.
Thanx

Jbrew....update on my problem
just an update for you.....after researching about what could be my problem with my truck, i came up with either it was the coil pack that was bad or the COP....so what i did was i went to a used car part store and purchased a used coil pack and put it on recently. when i did, i took it out and still nothing, i was in the same boat as before. the problem didnt go away. so i took out the spark plug and with 150k miles on it, the plug was pretty clean. then i saw that the gap in between was about twice as the size as it was suppost to. fix the gap and now the truck is running like it used to before the problem. anyways just thought i would update you on this.
Thanks for updating - that's great!
Yea, all plugs/brands will do that, if there left in the motor long enough. As they age - gap increases. That's normal wear.
Personally , I haven't left a set in there long enough to see for myself.
Glad you got her fixed

check for this. I had a similar ticking sound on my driver side and it turned out to be this.
Jeez - are you THAT broke you can't afford a full set of new plugs? 8 OEM Motorcraft Platinum plugs and a tube of dielectric grease shouldn't cost you more than 40 bucks and you will probably improve your gas mileage immediately.
- I don't think he was taking us serious lol. Oh well , what can you do :o
