VIN question

Wasn't sure where to ask this so if this is the wrong place i am sorry.I just purchased a 2001 f150 xlt extended cab from a guy i work with.He took the stickers off of the bed when he bought it,and i am also wondering if it came with a towing package. He also thought it had off road 4X4 stickers on it and i am going to replace them.Is there a way from the VIN that i can tell If this was an off road 4X4?Also if it came with a towing package? And does anyone here know what exactly the difference is between a 4X4 and a off road 4X4?The VIN is 2FTRX18LO1CA53282.

Thats a decoder offered here. As for further investigation, call a dealer and ask the parts dept.

So... not to sound sarcastic or anything... But shouldn't you be able to tell by looking at it if these options are on there? For example, if it's the Off Road 4x4 package, shouldn't you be able to look inside and see if there is a switch for the 4WD? And for the towing package, shouldn't you just be able to look to see if the trailer hitch is bolted into the frame vs. the bumper? I mean, I know there are different classes of towing, but... I dunno. I thought it would be as simple as the to tell. Am I wrong? Perhaps I'm just ignorant? Don't hate me...

Honestly dude, I've never owned a Fx4 or simple 4x4 F150. Mine was a 97
2wd so I wouldn't know. My nav has a switch on the dash by the radio for the AWD and 4x4 system. I had an explorer that had the same 4x4 switch minus the awd option that was a 95 year model. Beyond that, someone else will have to educate.

the 4x4 is just that a 4x4. the off road edition came with skid plates and off road shocks poss rancho. look under the truck and check for skid plates. also probably not a good idea to post your vin number for the whole world to see!

He's in atlanta, i'm in atlanta. whats to say I don't find his truck in a parking lot and write it down? What am I gonna do with it? Ford won't let you get a key cut without ABSOLUTE proof of ownership, and they have to have a trail of paperwork a mile long......plus the fact that ford only keeps key codes for 5 years and he has a 2001 so they can't even cut his key. The VIN is otherwise worthless and easily taken off any car in any parking lot at anytime. Convienently located right there in the corner of the winshield for anyone to see.

oh wow. We have people who "steal" cars and trucks yes. I'm sure we have our fair share of chop shops. I'm not aware of anyone who has had their identify stolen with a vehicle vin number, and not sure quite what the relevance of that was. Tell you what, I'll give you my vin number and you hash it out and if you can get it you can post every bit of personal info you can find on me right here on this page and if we have any cold blooded killers they'll know where to find me. Trust me, the vin is worthless in that matter at this point. 5 years ago, yea it was a bad idea. Nowadays, not a big dealio at all. I mean, take for instance that guy that runs that company with the commercials that posts his SS# on the side of a truck and drives it around town that guarantees your identity can't be stolen when using his product. (i find that a bit extreme but a good example) And I ain't tryin to be a **** either, its just that vin info is freely posted almost everywhere (like dealer ads, ebay requires it for selling on their site) Its kewl though, if it makes you feel more secure

Try your VIN here - I believe you get a few options - It might help.

Or try OASIS -
