PCV Removal

2003 F150 4.6L EFI - rotten pcv elbow.
Codes P0171 (System Too Lean Bank 1) and P0174 (System Too Lean Bank2).

Questions about removing PCV valve. The valve/elbow is hard to get to, do you take off the throttle body? Is the pcv valve just pushed in there. My pcv has a metal ring with two other hoses on it (one on each side). Main question - do you just pop the pcv valve out or do you have to take off the throttle body.

Thanks.

Stickin' it to the man...

Thanks for the reply. During my attempt to replace the pcv elbow, just so happens that every hose I removed had coolant in it, including the one at the base of the pcv valve. Therefore, I was determined to replace it without taking anything else off. Using a long screwdriver and a blade, I cut away the remaining half of the rotten elbow that was on the pcv valve. I purchased the replacement hose assembly (part # 2L3Z-6A664-A Hose Vent) for $26.84 from Ford dealer (elbow not sold separately, yea, yea, yea even part # F65Z-6762-BB, which is all over this forum, that one is for the 4.2L, not the 4.6L, at least not mine). I tried for at least an hour trying to get my hand back there, just could not do it. A buddy of mine was watching me, who just so happens to be my 9 yr old son, said he could do it. So I laid a body board across the motor and he laid up there and put it on. Idles steady @750 rpm.

Dealership wanted $90 just for the diagnostic. I just couldn't do it....

Error codes read by Autozone $0
Joining F150Online and talking to people who really know their stuff $0
Fuel filter, tool, and hose assembly $38
You and your son working together on your truck, and actually fixing it Priceless

Good job jdr - Specially getting that kid involved. I must have a little more elbow room on my 98. I can barley get my hand back by the firewall ; just enough to slip that elbow off the manifold port (if it's not stuck on there, sometimes you have to crack them loose first.) If I pull the plastic cover/shroud off the TB, I can get to it. The 98 has less emissions/less bullchit in the way..

Yea torkum - jdr emailed me yesterday about that PCV w/that deal rapped around it on his 03. I couldn't figure out what he was talking about right away.

You posted that link above - OH YEA, now I know what he meant, yours was the same way - I have to steal a pic of that

I don't think to many trucks had that set up. That's the true Cold Climate set up and a PITA to deal with
