Gas Mileage

I was wondering what kind of gas mileage do you guys with the 5.4 get, and what can be done to improve mileage. I have been lurking here for awhile, and just joined. I have read about different tunes, but have not seen any actual numbers. Thanks in advance.

right now 13.5. I have no idea why, thats when in 2 wheel, mostly city driving, about 16-17 while on highway. And that is with me very easy on the gas. Now given mine is 99, but with only 36k miles its like brand new. I would be interested to see the replies on this post.

I get 14.7, and it seems it does not matter how I drive. Mine is a 01 with 87,000 miles. I do mostly highway driving, cruise around 75 on in the interstate. My 03 Expedition "tells" me it gets around 17 if I drive all interstate, and about 12.5 around town.

Gas Mileage

2004 F-150 FX4. I was thinking about this question today. I'm getting around 12.5 mpg in the city. I don't know what highway mileage I'm getting. I was also wondering if there is something I can do to improve gas mileage. I've read some things on this site about reprogramming the computer, but I would guess that the mileage would go down.

It's has allot to do with how you drive/conditions and of course the petrol used- Winter gas is just nasty anyway you look at it - Took a trip to PA, from Michigan. On the way their, thru Ohio I managed 20 mpg. Most of the driving was on the Ohio Turnpike - cruising @ 60 mph.

On the way home thru the Pennsylvania mountains, I filled up in Ohio and averaged 12 mpg

It took more pedal thru the mountains , but I didn't think it should of made such a big difference.

It does, specially in the 5.4L . The 5.4L will get the same mileage as the 4.6L - IF you drive civilized. It's when you call upon the extra power the 5.4L has that makes the difference. You have to fuel that power.

Are you all dialed in now? You a little rich maybe ? That motor should be averaging 20 mpg or close to it with average driving- even city.

Can you get thru a tank without racing someone, or putting the coals to it - once or twice?

You have one of nicest set ups I've seen that's street legal -

What can be done to 20 MPG? I love my F150, but the gas mileage is killing me, and unfortunately, my wife's Expedition is just as bad. I drive anywhere between 60-130 miles a day during the work week.

Buy a beater small car. My wife has a saturn that gets almost 40mpg. Gas goes up much more and we are going to start using it more and more even though I despise it.

Yea , back in the good olé days those VW Rabbit diesels where netting 50 mpg.

I tried to find one once, was unsuccessful for the most part. I did find a guy who converted one to run on vegetable oil

No sh^t - He would visit restaurants collecting their USED cooking oil, filter it and pour it right in. That damn thing ran!!

At the time, he computed his savings to be about 5 grand per year doing this.

I am hoping to avoid that. I use my truck for work about 3 days a week, and have considered selling the F150, getting something that gets better gas mileage like a 02 Maxima or 02 TL Type-S, that way I could swap with my wife if I need a truck. If I could get 20 MPG's with the F150, I would be alot happier. I also have a supercharged 5.0 Mustang, so if I have to get rid of something, it will be the F150, I am just hoping to avoid that. So, I am hoping to hear some secrets to get me to the magic number.
