Question Maintenance Intervals

Hello,
I have a 2001 Ford F150 Supercrew 4x4 4.6L and I have already posted a thread on the Supercrew forum and no one wants to respond. I was wondering if anyone could tell me when the valves need to be adjusted, when the timing chain needs to be replaced and how long does these engines usually last? Thanks.

The valves never need to be adjusted and the chains never need to be replaced under normal conditions. With proper maintainance I have seen vehicles with the 4.6 get over 300,000 miles with original chains, valves etc. Will you get that many miles? Only time will tell but this engine and the 5.4 are both capable of that kind of durability.

My '97 4.6L 4x4 was near 300k when I totaled it. Only maintenance was normal fluid changes and Ujoint replacement. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

Wow, I don't see how that this engine can go so long without a timing chain or valve adjustment.

My 97 5.4L has 233K on it now. Never had valves done, or timing chain adjusted. Runs perfect.

No wonder Yota is sweating!!! If they keep that ugly body style there will be no competition.

That's good to know. My husband said I would need to have some work done on it soon and I needed to know what i needed to prepare for and how much money I needed to save. He has a Yota.

Another 300,000 4.6 here. My '97 has 321,000 miles on it. Never any issues with the engine. The only Issues I've had: plug wires (once), carbon pluged EGR passage (once), broken exhaust mainifold studs (never fixed it, it just ticks a little until it warms up). I have changed the u-joints, and carrier bearings in the 8.8 rear end. Other than that, things have been great.
