Is the Check Engine Light on? if so get the code read. If it says you have a miss transplant the coil on the missing cylinder to a non missing cylinder if the miss moves with it obviously the coil is bad. Coils are maintenance items they need to be replaced every 100k or so. If you have never done it and you have over 100k on them they need to be replaced.

The integrity of any ignition coil can be checked by analyzing the waveform on a lab scope, it is the proper way to physically check a coil. If you have a misfire then get out your scanner, if there is no code set, go into mode 6 data and view misfire events to find which cylinder # it is, If you already know the cylinder # from a set code or have no scanner, get the codes checked & swap the coil with the one next to it, if the misfire monitor changes cylinders with the coil or the miss follows the coil, then replace that coil (don't wait too long to find a miss as it can and will damage you catalytic converter). No need to replace all of them, that is a rumor that got started somewhere, but some people feel comfortable just replacing them all along with the plugs. I recomend using a Ford or Motocraft coil replacement, all others just don't cut it, and that's from experience. "Global" coils are junk and don't perform well, scope patterns are all over the place, but, some guys on here swear by them and that's fine and dandy, but I see failures every day and ebay is where they come from. Good luck, post back the results.

You have got to be joking or a seller!!!

I have as well as other used Global coils and they work great. I have also used my Weakon tester on them after installation, which test kilivolt and arc duration. One set on myown in use for several years. Infact I have used mulitple sets of them without even one failure.

Yea , Ive had a few factory replacement coils go bad on me - In a short period of time. -

The green label coil above went out from a coolant leak. The one with Red paint, I can't recall - I think that came from another Ford truck , not mine, but the other two from Ford just went without reason within a years time - one within 3 months.

Below - This is a pic of a total factory replacement set I used for awhile. These were new. - First, #8 went, but that wasn't any fault of the coil , my gas line disconnected and saturated the coil with fuel. BUT - #4 went without explanation. New coolant lines and No leaks #4.

See how #4 coil was installed in #1 cylinder - That was because it failed and I swapped 4 with 1 to determine the coil was indeed bad . - It was, the misfire moved to #1 cylinder with #4 coil in charge.

At this time I've done 3 Global Automotive installs. A 99 5.4L , A 01 5.4L and currently, I have been running a set of Global Coils for 6 months. If I had a Global coil fail in one of these trucks, I would know it and post a pic. BUT, I haven't had one go out yet. The 99 has been running Globals for about 2 years without an issue.

As far as quality, Global has proved their coils to me personally and not just by word of mouth AND not just by one install - 3 of them.

The factory coils can be bad right from the get go - so can a global coil. I don't think any coil seller can escape the possibility of selling a bad coil. It happens with every one of them.

The global coils record here , of bad coils, is very low for the quantity of people running them. That's the facts.

For more data - the search bar will provide all the data needed and support what I have posted.

Not bashing anyone personally, I'm just reporting how it's been and what I've noticed thru personal experience.

No, no joke, but I honestly do think "someone" on here is the global cra*, I mean "parts" seller.

Like I said, I only can tell you what I see on a day to day basis. Most of you guys only drive your trucks, I drive and fix them daily, along with a few others on this site, I'm sure. Most of the vans and trucks that I service are Fords, and the average mileage on them is about 180,000 and guess what........most of the COP's are the original ones and scope out perfectly,(not a just a voltage or arc tester, which a scope also performs, and visually), and if one goes bad (which is not very often) it gets replaced w/ a Motorcraft. The only time I have to replace most or all of the COP's on a vehicle is when a D.U.I'er bought them from egay or Autozone/Pep boys . Most of you swear by using Motocraft parts, but for some reason you put junk coils on and then say to replace them in 60,000mi or so, IT'S NOT NESESSARY!! I just don't get it, and when certified and trained personel come on here to offer advice I always hear, "you must be joking" but the real test is at the service & repair end and also on the road. You guys need to stop "joking", just because somebody has thousands of posts doesn't mean they know everything, I do this for a living and I don't know everything, Nobody does, but some of us do know more and try to offer up what we can. I AM NOT TRYING TO OUT DO ANYBODY, just trying to understand why people take advice from non-certified/trained people, and then bash the knowledgeable ones.
