I did that.... Built it while i was in college, when I graduated, I put it in. Id look around ebay, find a used engine for cheap. sell what you dont need, you can usually make every penny back and still have half of what you bought.

All the 97-04 heritage blocks are the same. The 3 valve 5.4 is a little different
as they provide better NHV characteristics and they can take a little more HP. Go toy the closest junk yard and have them find one for you. Http://www. car-parts.com Find the closest one to you and have it shipped or go pick it up. That's what I do.

Alright thanks for the information on that I didnt know if there were any differences...looking around I seen the seperate 97-98 parts then the 99-04. So everything would bolt up fine with a 97 block and getting everything else from 99 to 04?

The blocks are the same!
It's the heads and intake-manifolds that are different.

I was hoping you might be close to me. lol

Cool

HI!... The 5.4 blocks will all bolt on the same items, like heads, timing chain covers etc. "97-03" are the standard 5.4 blocks. "03-08" are NVH blocks. They are heavier than the standard 5.4 blocks due to added material in certain areas to make the block stronger. Then there is the SVT 5.4 block that has no provision for the heater line from the back of the water pump. So "ALL" 5.4 blocks are not the same. There is also the all aluminum 5.4 block which is about 6 times the price of the other 3 cast iron blocks.

Don't forget the aluminum Ford GT block has no provision for a starter. The starter is bolted the the transmission.

Alright, what I am wanting to do is just get a standard 5.4 block and build it, I want the truck to be compareable to a lightning maybe more. Im going to take my time and build it right. The only thing im worried about at this moment is which block to get, as to which one would be the best for this project. I know this wont be an easy project nor inexpensive by no means
