To all the guys/gals that have had a cam phaser issue with their 04 or new 5.4 3valve. I bought my truck with 16xxx miles in sept of 06. It has made a diesel sound every since I bought it. The dealer where it came from told me the noise was normal for this engine. However, they were reluctant to define normal. Now with 35,600 miles the noise is louder and more pronounced. You can really hear the noise with the hood up. It's more noticeable from the passenger side cam. Sounds like a rachet just spinning. I'm outta warranty by years but not by miles. I asked my neighbor, a ford mechanic what his thoughts were for approaching the dealer where I live. He said to tell them that I know about the TSB, and I know that Ford has honored Warranty Good Faith requests for this problem. My greatest ammunition is that I have had every oil change done on schedule at the exact same Ford dealer, and I have all the documents to prove it. What are your thoughts? What does it cost to replace the Cam Phasers, and if it is covered, are there any other parts I should have replaced while the engine is tore down (i.e. spark plugs).
