This is all so neat!
Replace parts, dealer can't see anything, must be a ghost doing all this.
Begin by learning how a miss is detected and all the areas that can cause it instead of all the dancing around the outside of the issue using codes and replacing parts.
CPS is the reference for all that goes on on the motor.
CMP controls fuel injection timing.
All these feed back the signals to the PCM.
Missing is detected by measuring rotation time on each individual cylinder.
There has to be enough out of limit miss stored in the miss tables BEFORE a code will be set. A marginal/random miss will be reset to quickly by the PCM program and never cause a code to be set.
No wonder he shows you nothing can be seen. You don't know what you are looking at and he may not either.
My bet is one faulty coil.
Have all of them stress tested to pick out the one that may be causing the issue.
Print this out and take it to your dealer and ask them to use some of the knowledge they learned in school about the products they work on.

If your PCM was designed the way the rest of ours is, it is going to take a bit for it to throw a code. Give it time, and, I don't think autolites are doing you any justice in this situation. I have seen it all too often.

Yea, I was in the Engineers (324) for 14 years - I quit a year and 1/2 ago. Most everyone I've worked with is either layed off or working in Canada. Now I can finally work again and there ain't squat. So I went with a another company - smaller one closer to home - at least they have a 401k plan - we'll see how it works out..Yea I'm still paid up until July..Damn , I miss those checks!! Haven't seen one in quite awhile..

OK I am the one that originally started this post and I have now finally resolved my problem. My 2001 F150 5.4 was misssing real bad and it finally posted a P0171 code. Checked for vacuum leaks and found none. Went to three different shops and they could not figure it out. Finally I purchased motorcraft spark plugs and Global COP's. Then I read some posts that said they were skeptical of Global's COP's. Finally decided to bite the bullet and go to the Ford dealership. They found the problem right away - bad #2 and #3 COP's. They replaced all boots, spark plugs and the two COP's. Truck is running great now.

Thanks for reporting the problem with those COP's. That sucks, they have been reliable in the past, sorry to here. The new boots were bad as well ? I never did like their boots and connectors. I'm using a set out of a 97 Mustang currently - They don't make em like that anymore.

Send them coils back to Global Auto - Call him first, tell him to send you a postage paid box to send them back in.

Glad she's running good now ..

I dont think he installed the globals. Think he's saying he became skeptical of them so he went to the Ford dealer and got raped..He should have just installed them..
If you want good boots I can say the ones that came with my Motoblues are better than the stock ones that came on my 99. I think they sell them separately.
