engine problems, 05 screw 5.4l

ok now i know the usual sound of the 5.4l tick. it does that and that im not concerned with.it is a 2005 5.4L ive got 106,000 kilometers on it and when i was dropping one of my employees off after work today he noticed it running strange , when i went to listen to it infact it does sound really strange.

At idle if you rev it to 900rpm and past you get a very noticable ticka ticka metal on metal noise from the passenger side from what i xcan tell, but you do not get it at regular idle and you cant hear it anymore after 1600rpm because of the fan noise and whatnot. but it definetly never did it before. also if you stand right beside the [assenger side mirror you can hear a louder than normal ticking from what seems like the lower portion of the engine. but i cannot place it. it is loudeer through the wheel well than from listening from up top in the engine compartment.

when it is idling around 1100 or so i can also feel what seems to be a miss or something, i had an 89gmc 350 that did the same thing and it was a spark plug. it runs fine but everynow and then you can feel a subtle drop and then fine again. only differance is the ticking did not happen on the gmc

i have read a dozen or so older threads but nothign i can find simuilar to this...sorry if i had a blonde moment and missed it.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Get under and check for an exhaust manifold leak while to motor is running.
Look for a black surface trail as well.

The 05's are also notorious for a lash adjuster tick...they will stick and cause a very audible tick.....

what causes a lash adjuster tick and is therre a way i can fix it?

is it something i need to worry about mostly.

i love my truck but all these issues, why dont they just build a decent truck considering the arm and a leg we have to pay for the damn things. everything has problems but i am almost considering buying a new chevy truck for my next one....almost

x2. I'm sure I'm not the first to say, I'm considering just dumping this 05' to avoid problems down the road(though my 47k now has been flawless besides the ticking, probably lash adjusters). I was offered a good deal on a trade for an 08' Titan 4x4, but I couldn't do it. I hope I won't be regretting not trading soon. The Titan was jam-up but I hear stories about this truck as well. Dam-, I wish Ford and Chevy would go back about 10-15 years and offer these older trucks.
