Engine Swap time!!!

Looking for some info on engine swaps. My truck has 4.6, and i am not happy with it! Looked into a v-10 swap, but my donor engine that was lined up, turned out to be "well it ran when i pulled it case" So, my next question is, has any done an older 5.8 liter swap into the newer generation f-150?My truck is a 97 4x4 with a manual trans.
i have a 93 ford f-250 with an automatic, a fuel injected 5.8 Windsor. The motor runs strong, (strong enough i will be worried about rear ends and front ends). Would this swap be as much of a hassel as a v-10 swap? or should i just keep waiting until i come across a good 5.4 lt? Thanks for any input!

The only engine you could realistically swap in it is the 5.4. Anything else wouldn't be worth it even a 5.4 swap would be a drag. Best thing to do is sell it and get one with a bigger engine already in it or beef up the 4.6.

as most others would say just trade it in. but i know the pain that goes along with it so i opted to build my truck a sc'd 5.4

i'd keep an eye out for a used 5.4 and rebuild it, then swap.
there has been one v-10 swap on here in recent months, look it up.

5.8 wont swap to that bellhousing u have either btw.

5.4/5.8/V10 out of them the 5.4 would be your best bet!

You will need a stronger tranny if you do any engine swap. The M5OD can't handle much more HP/TQ than what you have already with the 4.6.

if i was to try and swap in the 5.8, i want want to use the auto tranny out of the truck as well. the truck runs now, (the 93 f250) but it is time to start working on it, (its getting a bigger motor and larger rear ends, so i know have a good running 351, that will be sitting in the shed) but form the sounds of it, it will be more hassel than what it is worth. thanks for all the replies!!! Looks like im waiting for a good 5.4 to turn up!!!

If you have the fabbing skills no swap is that difficult. As was mentioned by far the easiest would be the 5.4 swap. The next choice would be the 5.8 with your tranny. You will need to fab up the mounts and dink around with the PCM.

Now once you have done the swap..... I noticed the tires so I guess you like to go off road. You can kiss the rear 8.8 good by. And once you crank the wheel hard to one side and press on the skinny pedal the CV joint will self destruct. So carry a spare. I would go on Car-parts.com and look up some 5.4 engines. They are not all that expensive.

i'd like to add to JMC a lil bit here. the 8.8 is relatively weak, but like any axle it can be built up. just how much ya wanna spend on that particular axle vs starting with another one. if it was me i'd start over with something tougher, even the 9.75 would have probably suited me better.
the cv's will take some abuse, just not with that size of meat lol. im sure some company can make some better ones when that issue arises.
the 5.4 can be found for ~$700. even with freight.

JMC, can u elaborate a lil more on the pcm? i know nuttin there lol

If you swap a 5.8 in a 97+ F-150 you will have to either use the 5.8 PCM and rewire/repin the body harness to match the PCM or you will have to rig up some way of controlling the 5.8 with the original PCM. You could always go stand alone. Megasquirt comes to mind.
