Engine swap

I have a 2008 F150 with teh 4.2v6 and have thought about building it up to 400 horsepower, but for half the price to do that to the v6 i can just drop in a supercharged 5.9

Will the 5.9 Mount right up in place of the 4.2? And will my 5 speed trans mount up? I want to keep the 5 speed transmission no matter what, just going to throw a stronger cluch in and beef up the trans a bit, Will this work? or is this a no go with the transmision?

Whose 5.9? The only 5.9 liter Ford I can think of is the old Y-block 360 V-8.

Your 5 speed is a light duty Mazda tranny that will not handle anywhere near that amount of horsepower and I'm not aware of any parts that will beef it. It's only available with the 4.2 these days, it used to be available on the 4.6 but no longer. I think we have some members here who have used it with a stock 5.4 and it has NOT held up.

2008? That's a brand new truck. Why didn't you buy one to begin with that had a 5.4 if you wanted that kind of performance in a truck? Any substantial mods you do will void your warranty, and an engine swap will CERTAINLY void it.

meant 5.4 had 5.9 stuck in my head for some reason, im aware of my warranty im not stupid. Why not get the 5.4 stock? Because i cant stand auto, and i want the manual trans, the only way to do it was the 4.2. I want to keep it manual thats the big issue here, If i wanted the auto tranny id just buy the truck stock with the auto 5.4

glc already responded to that!

So maybe you should get a F-250.
Or put a F-250 trans behind your new motor.

If you want a 5.4 with a manual, you have to buy a F-250. It uses a heavy duty ZF which I understand is NOT an easy fit in a F-150.

I'm with ya - I prefer manuals too. We are gonna be SOL in 09 - the 150 will no longer have the V-6 or a manual.

That's about the route the OP has to go.

Really, why buy a new truck when a swap like this involves a different tranny and rear axle...

The 5.4 will not bolt up to the 4.2 M5OD-R2. It has a different bellhousing bolt pattern. You will need a M5OD-R2 out of a 99-03 4.6 F-150. You will also need a flywheel from a 97-98 Windsor 4.6 (8 Bolt). You will also need the wire harness for the 5.4 and to have the 4.2 PCM reconfigured to run the 5.4. I have been told that this can easily be done with the CAN protocol.

I still wouldn't trust *any* M5OD behind 400 hp.

So pull the tranny from a F250 and drop it into my truck?

ok so what if i just waited, sold my truck for a F250 with 4 wheel drive and such, could i then put the 5.4 in and begin my build? I dident think about that, would hold up better and allow more room to work with as well.

If you are going to buy a F-250, want a manual, and want to go fast, just order it with the V-10 or 6.4 diesel and 6 speed manual.

The F-250 tranny is a ZF, and I don't think it's an easy swap into a 150.

Is your F-150 a 4x4? If not you could get the T56 from an SRT10 Dodge pickup and swap the cobra bellhousing onto it and fit it to the 5.4.

JMC, what are you running in your rig - a M5OD? How many have you been through? What's your estimated flywheel HP and TQ?
