If you were happy with the 4.2 I would just go to the U-PULL and find a low mileage one and slap it in there. It will cost you less in the long run.

If you insist on getting a V8 in there, I would look around and see if you can't find an entire wrecked truck. That way you will have motor, tranny, harness and the PCM right there.

I will be honest and say I am not sure about the tranny. I do know that you will have to have the motor mounts, PCM and the wiring harness changed out. I'm sure sooner or later someone will chime in about the tranny.

No body work would be involved unless a fender gets smashed in while changing everything out. LMAO

Lucky thing that yous is a 98. if you put in a triton, 4.6 or 5.4 you will need the PCM and harness, complete engine, tranny and engine mounts. Find a 98 5.4 and slap it in. The exhaust will also need to be tweeked to fit the new position of the exhaust manifold collector brought about by the taller V8 engine.

Toss in a rear axle in the case of a 5.4L to what has already been mentioned. Then reflash the truck when the swap is done.

To go to all that work and not put the truck to use is...unwise. The 8.8 tolerance is probably just over what a 4.6L will put it through.

Unless you get a really smoking deal, get a newer v8 truck.
