man i cant decide whether i like working in these ford motors or not. the motor is so set back against the firewall its hard as hell to get back there but once you are as soon as you rotate ANY bolt once its pretty much able to come out by hand. the intake was frikin enormous! i know theres got to be a some good performance ones. or maybe just get a lightning intake and supercharger and computer. or is it harder than that?
anyway. this thread is why Im doing this...

and does anyone know why these heads I bought have cradles on it and a thicker camshaft end then the ones on the truck now?
im such a noob to fords...

Thats because some of them are morons, Im the engine guy at our dealer and I dont do it that way. Ive done many 32V heads and countless 16V heads in chassis. Same goes for 32V in the aviators and I still make great gain time so someone is doing something the hard way. A 16V head job takes 5.5hrs beginning to end for either bank.
As for the cams, you have the wrong cams in those replacement heads. The cam gears on your original heads are pressed the new heads have bolt on gears.

double check the bolt hole sizes in the front of the heads for the timing cover. the windsor bolt holes are much larger than the romeo heads holes. You may have a set of romeo heads for your windsor. They fit with different bolts and different gears but why not get the right heads? dont worry about the cam caps. Looking at the pics again, I say you have romeo heads which are incorrect.
You're right. We just checked and the valve covers wont fit and its just all fudged up. anyone want a passenger side romeo head?
thanks pnewman!
also. in your time at the dealer have you ever seen a windsor cam gear just strip itself loose like that?

All aftermarket cams are bolt on Romeo style. Am I missing something here??
HI!... You have ROMEO heads. The 4.6's used bolt on cam gears. The 5.4 uses pressed on. I ran into this when I bought my FOX LAKE STAGE II heads. My factory cams had pressed on cam gears. The COMP CAM cams I bought use the bolt on 4.6 cam gears. So I went out and bought a set from the dealer for the 4.6.
