Problem

i have a problem and i have heard so many different causes and i was hoping someone on here could give me a definate cause of my problem and a fix for it.

PROBLEM
first thing in the morning i start the truck up it runs like normal when it is cold. when the truck warms up and i am just driving along and barely have the gas pedal down the truck begins to jerk and shake. it does it if i am just trying to accelerate or if i am flooring it, the only difference is when i am getting on it alittle it doesnt shake or jerk but in the sound of the exhaust you can her an occasional dead spot (no sound) for a split second. there is no check engine light. i attached a diagnostic to the truck and nothing.

POSSBILE FIX'S
1. i have been told maybe plugs and plug wires
2. i have been told fuel pump. i also was told that my 2001 supercrew 4.6 has 2 fuel pumps. one in the tank and one under my driver seat. is that true or is he jerking my chain.
3. maybe the fuel filter
4. or possibly the regulator.

please help i want to get this fixed before it causes more problems.

Dead spot ? Maybe a cat is getting plugged - How many miles?

Well -

Just one fuel pump in the tank

You don't have plug wires on that model.

Could be the fuel system or the ignition system - Maybe the EGR valve.

I suggest a service manual form any third party supplier so that you can troubleshoot some of these areas. Like fuel pressure at the rail and Regulator.

See if theres a noticable difference in cat temp after it's been driven - or get it tested. Cats will heat up when they start to get plugged.

Good Luck

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? If you don't know, start there. OEM Ford filters are best.

Hmmm - michiganman3 - here's how it works. The original poster that started this thread has a specific question or topic that he would like some help with. So, others post in order to help the OP with his problem. Posting a completely different topic is referred to as derailing the thread, and generally not appreciated.

Good luck.

Pull all your COPs after it's warm and see if there is any condensation on the on the plug boots, sounds like water or just an intermitant spark failure uner load. After its warm can you feel the miss when you come to a idle in gear?

Is your Check Engine Light on? Flashing, perhaps while you experience the shaking? Have you checked for codes?

Sounds like a bad COP to me.

i had the exact same issue with my truck yesterday. it only does it when its warm and very humid outside (mostly on rainy or foggy nights). I replaced all 8 COP's yesterday and found that 4 of the boots were very loose fitting around the plugs, and so far so good on the skip / jerk being gone.

no check engine light before during or after the shaking.
