Unhappy 4.2L engine swap

I have a 1997 Ford F-150 with the 4.2 V6 with around 200,000 miles on it and it has a blown head gasket i want to keep the truck and i was wondering if i could put a 302 or a 351W in it? the truck has sentamental value so i dont want to see it die!! Is it possible to do the swap and if so..what will have to be done in order to do it and whats the price im looking at? Im trying not to break 4 or 5 grand????

I'm thinking a modular motor would be easier.......

why not just go w/ a 4.6 or a 5.4? the swap would be much easier, and there is much information regarding such swaps available here...

4-5 grand - I take it your not doing this yourself. Anything is possible as far as a motor swap . Realistically, you'll want to stay with the modular series motors. 97-03 4.2L -5.4L power plants..

I'd at least go with a 4.6L so the rear axle won't have to be changed out. One less thing to worry about since a matching donor 4.6L tranny is a must.

Oh yeah, the 97-99 model 4.6L's have good old fashioned coil packs.

That's a winner.

Question

I know i should stay with the modular motors but im just a big fan of the 302. the parts are cheap and plentiful, if it really is best... about what kind of work will i have cut out for me if i went with the 5.4??? and im not doing the swap...im letting someone else do it for me...im kinda in the desert over here in afghani****y!! but i want the swap to be done before i get back because i need a running vehicle. I just want to make sure im not getting ripped off by the guy who im letting do the swap. If someone could give me a list of what i might need to do the swap to a bigger motor it would be very helpful and much appreciated!! Thanks for all yalls input so far
