The amount of overlap is what causes your "rough idle". You can figure this with this equation: Intake duration + Exhaust duration, divided by 4, - LSA ( LOBE SEPARATION ANGLE) , x 2. The more overlap, the rougher the idle.

Stock
202 + 207 = 409 divided by 4 = 102.25 - LSA112° = -9.75 No overlap, no lope

COMP CAM XE262H
226 + 230 = 456 divided by 4 = 114 - LSA113° = 1° Almost no overlap no lope.

CROWER 62804-2
246 + 246 = 492 divided by 4 = 123 - LSA113° = 10° This cam should be a little rough. It could be mistaken for a miss.

PS. I am not positive on the LSA of the CROWER but I believe it is somewhere between 112 and 114.

Not sure I agree with you. It's all in the cam profile on how it's going to sound. Some grinds just don't lope like others.

Here are some Comp 278s in my 2V mustang, my tune is on the money. You can kind of hear the cams.

One should never buy cams just because they sound good. If I put the cams from my mustang into my truck, I would have no low end torque/power at all. You want the right cam for your application.

Sounds like you know your stuff!! i was just wondering if i were to switch out my stock cam to an aftermarket one would it sound like this and if i would gain/lose anything valuable..like say torque..

Also, if there is a good switch from stock to aftermarket which one would be a good suggestion?

Thanks in advance!!

Not sure what year truck you have, but if you have a 4.6 or 5.4 engine you have cams - two of them.

Crower and Comp make some good cams for the modular engines. Some of their cams are truck specific and provide a decent torque improvement over stock. Check out their websites for the info.
