Are you referring to the DPFE? If so, did you buy the replacement from the dealer?

Bad move. Only Ford has the improved part. The Autozone DPFE's last on an average of 2 months.

Your parts were probably good. When the EGR passages in the intake manifold get "carboned-up" you get insufficient flow. Do some searches and you will find out how to clean the passages.

+1 - The dealerships have the correct one

There is one other I found recenty if you have to order over the net that have the stock "aluminum" ones ONLY which is what you need shifty -

Auto Zones are junk.

It's just the style used on the earlier models. They converted to plastic sometime in the early 2000's because of deterioration issue's. The two supply ports would develop holes over time where the rubber hoses connect. Condinsation and white rust..

When they went to plastic they first came out with a smaller one , but that didn't last long.

Sometime in late 2001 early 2002 they went with the bigger unit once again , but this time they were plastic instead of the aluminum predecessor and that's the one that has the problems. That one still needs to be acquired at the dealerships..

The smaller plastic type , The 9J460 wasnt aound for long, they had there share of problems -

The aluminum one - I don't have a pic of the newer plastic one , but it looks like the aluminum one - only plastic and I believe the tube connections are opposite of the aluminum units. Meaning the big tube is now on the outside and the smaller port is on the inside..

I have seen aluminum styles used on 2001 models as well - so, it may be an issue at the factory . They used what may have been handy at the time. I do know that you have to replace with the same one that was installed on your truck from the factory or it will not work..They all shoot signals in a different fashion..

i compaired them both the one i took off and the one from autozone same size and everything just made of plastic. i read the vaccum lines and matched them up even thoe they were switched. how would i find out if the pipe it self is clogged? any tricks on this? im almost postve my pipe is full of crap and thats throwing the code... my old EGR it self i did a suck test on the vaccum it took a while for it to come down the new....newer EGR came off a ranger *same EGR i belive they were the same size and everything* worked very well when i did the test on the vaccum. oh and my one big question Will this really effect my truck in any peromance/gas mileage way??

You stock DPFE was plastic? That's a first .. The 4.2,4.6,5.4 models and even the 3.8's where aluminum for that year..

That's the one you need or it won't work..It states that @ Ford Scorpio, there internals differ and the PCM doesn't have the programing...

im pretty sure it was plastic i still have it somewere ill check 2 morro. why does it have to be Aluminum to work? *i have no idea what this thing does so thats why im asking so many questions sorry* and will it take away performance or gas mileage? someone said "inseffenct flow is better than a high flow in the EGR"

Yea , I explained that above ^^^^^^

The pipes themselves run into the bigger one . The small ID tube connects to the inside smaller tube on the pipe. It then runs through an orifice. I've never heard of that get plugged. In fact, I chopped my old EGR pipe in half to check it out after 220,000 miles - It was clear in perfect shape..

What gets clogged is the ports inside the throttle body elbow..

This may help -

no i bought it used at around when it had around 90K on it but the code came up about 10K after i had it. the only thing i can rembeing doing is cutting the exhuast and adding headers in the frist 10K. donno if that helps. i just want the CEL off for once! lol
