Oil Filters...Hope this helps

I have a 2000 F150, 5.4. I had my oil changed at a local shop a few times within the past year. I noticed that after the oil change, and after my truck had sit overnight, when I started it, it would tick like crazy until the oil was circulated (about 30-60 seconds).

I read some posts on here about some filters not having an "anti drain back device" (hope I got that right). I changed my own oil this time and put on the OEM Motorcraft filter and guess what, NO TICKING on start up.

So, I just want to say thanks to those of you who suggested sticking with OEM filters. Hope this helps all of you who may have the same problem.

By the way, the filters the local shop was using did not even have a name on them. Just a white cylindrical piece of crap...

what they prob did at ur shop was sand down the brand and all that on the filter they took off and threw it back up there. lol i always do my own oil its cheaper...and if i buy a few extra things it goes toward my free 20$ at autozone. i got penzoil 5W30 *what my book said in 97* and a motorcraft filter just did it last night my truck seems happy! Frist time in a while its had a motorcraft fitler but thats all that will be on it from now on.. i used some Wix and STP fitlers but i think im stickin with motorcraft bc it says to under the hood next to the pully digagram

curious-i always ? this- why is there a need for an anti dainback valve when the filter is positioned as it is-rightside up?i could see if it was backwards and oil could drain out of it-would anyone like to shed some light on this?

I usually pick up the MotorCraft 820s filter, at Wall Mart for $3.32, it doesn't get any cheaper or easier than that IMO...........

You gotta be careful what you buy in those stores! I buy alot of my automotive maitenance items ie. MotorCraft Filters, Mobil-1 Oil, & numerous American Made tools from them.......use them, just as they use uneducated comsumers, it's the American way!............

I think the noise could be the timing chain, oil pressure is used to keep the timing chain tight, no oil pressure then the timing chain could be fopping around until it's builds up. Also with the cams on top now oil has to travel alittle farther to reach the cam's compare to 302/351 engine's.

Anti-drain valve's just make sence, keeps more oil in the lines and the oil pump primed.
