Nice discussion on why an anti drainback valve is needed on these engines 00Ford4x4! Its so good to hear of your findings and nice to see how on topic this thread is going.

Yes, you are correct. An anti-drainback valve is only a benefit if the filter is installed sideways at some degree up to and including up-side-down. Which is the case for the stock filter mount on these trucks. If you had like a remote filter or something where the filter was completely verticle (opening/engine side straight up), then a drain back valve is completely irrelevant.

Not to be a pain, but the biggest reason things are made in China etc is the fact that Wal-Mart will tell them if they want to sell, sell for this price or nothing. Their ad campaign's are missing something when it says they are rolling back prices..... and jobs overseas. This works because the consumer will go there to save 10 cents.

Amsoil has worked fine for me and many others I know.

As far as filters, I usually use MC 820's, but often use Fram's or one's from Quaker State, maker is ????? Everytime after, engine always sounds the same, drain back valve or not. Whatever works and puts wind in your sails, stick with it.

By the way, the filters the local shop was using did not even have a name on them. Just a white cylindrical piece of crap...

Oil changes at "mom & pop" shops, and even large oil change chains, typically will use oil & filters which are purchased in bulk. In the case of the oil - most likely a 10W30 from whichever name brand they have hanging on their banner: Pennzoil, Quaker State, Kendall, et cetera. Sometimes they will hang a banner with a name you will recognize, but that does not mean you are actually getting that brand of oil. They pay no attention to what your manual actually calls for, but use 10W30 as a middle of the road answer to all the cars that roll through there. How do you think that can stay in business at $19.95? It cost more than that to change the oil yourself if you used a brand name synthetic & better grade filter. If you insist on using your corner shop, then ask questions about what weight & brands you're getting. Ask if they could use at least the right weight oil according to your manual. Or better yet, bring your own oil and filter like I do. Why pay them, and then supply your own oil & filter? I am paying for their labor & disposal. I hate crawling under my car, spilling oil, cleaning spilled oil, getting my hands dirty, and then having to dispose of that old oil.

Not to side track again...but... Have you guys ever compared other filters?? (other than Fram!!) In no way am I gonna sit here and bag on MC filters...it's obvioulsy a tried and well proven product and I've never ever heard of a failure (but I have seen a failure of an 820S) but next time you're in AutoZone or PepBoys, pick up a Mobil 1 filter and look at it. Look at the construction and the way it's assembled. Completely superior product, and makes the MC's look and feel really cheap in comparison. My opinion of corse.

I'm not going to sit still and let you call Amsoil a scam. It's a quality product at a reasonably competitive price. If you don't like it, don't buy or use it. I happen to like it, I used to be a dealer, and I believe in the advantages of the product. Do I use it now? No - not because I don't believe in it or want to pay the price, but strictly out of a matter of convenience. If a local Amsoil dealer offered installation services, I'd be using it. I do not do my own oil changes any more and don't intend to. I use a Mobil 1 Express Lube.

If you want to call Amsoil a scam, then you better start calling other synthetic vendors such as Royal Purple scams too.

Mobil 1 filters are excellent. STP filters are crap, they are rebranded Fram. Wix is equal to Motorcraft, and a Napa Gold is a Wix.

I think that it's quite funny how someone who used to be a Amscam Cheerleader now does not use their own product that they used to peddle.......it's comical.........

I was never a cheerleader, I was a dealer that bought the product at dealer price and used it. I had several regular customers too, but I didn't go out and pound the streets and look for business or try to sign up subaccounts. I let my dealership expire when I was reduced to driving beaters due to financial issues and had no need for a premium product any more. You no longer have to buy from a dealer, anyone can order the stuff direct online.

What is your hangup, dude? If you don't like the multilevel marketing model, fine - I'm not a big fan of that either - but as far as it being a quality product I'll stand behind it 100% until something happens that proves it otherwise.

I *WOULD* go back to using it if it were more convenient. I won't buy my own stuff and take it to a shop and ask them to install it for me, that's just not right. I *MAY* buy one of their new air filters though, I like the idea of a premium dry cleanable filter.

.
Not true...you still need a sponsor/dealer to order on line. You must have a ZO number to open an account or place an order. If you already have a standing account that's one thing. If not, John Doe can't just log on and order any more.

No, you can just click the No Preference check box and they will assign a ZO for you. I believe they assign a dealer in your area based on shipping address.

I read some posts on here about some filters not having an "anti drain back device" (hope I got that right). I changed my own oil this time and put on the OEM Motorcraft filter and guess what, NO TICKING on start up.

So, I just want to say thanks to those of you who suggested sticking with OEM filters. Hope this helps all of you who may have the same problem.

That is good to know, I have always changed my oil with the OEM filter but it is nice to know some don't have the anti-drain back valve.
