4.6 redline?

Does anybody know what the redline is on a 1997 f150 with a 4.6 because I have a superchips programmer and i bumped it up from shifting at 5000 to 5700 and I really don't want to blow it up but I want the most performance I can get.

Anything over 5400 can balloon the torque converter unless you replace it with a heavy duty unit. Dial it back to 5400 till you do the tranny work. The engine *should* be good for 6 grand.

I would say in 3rd(for racing) or OD(for breaking the sound barrier) you can go up to 5500 or even 6000 .
But your 1-2 shifts should be about 54 to 5500. That's about the limit of your power-band. After that your just wasting time!

Your 4.6 will not go to 6000 in third unless you do some major mods to the engine. I have a 5 speed and I had the rev limiter set to 6500 when I had the 4.6. My 97 was set the same way. No ill effects on the motor. But with an auto you are best to dial it back to 5500 at the most till you beef up the tranny.

^^^^^^^^ I agree. The weak link is the torque converter. Frequent 5,600+ revs will balloon the TQ. The engine is OK with it.
