brown/rusty coolent????

i just bought a 96 f150 eddie bauer and it runs fine but tonight while bring my girlfriend home my check engine light came on. i looked in the coolent reservoir and it was kind of a rusty looking color. the dealer ship said that a hose was replaced because it broke and it had shot this all over and it was all over under the hood when i first looked at it. i figured a dealer ship would take care of it but i guess not. my question is is my truck ok? and what should i do?

ooh and it isent like sluge either, it is just rusty looking.

There's a pre 97 forum on this board, you may want to post in that one too. I'm not sure how they check for codes on the 96.

Good Luck

Drain it, use a cleaner and flush it with water, then refill with fresh coolant.

This truck doesn't sound like it's been very well maintained. Good luck.

96 is the first year of OBD2, check codes the same way as 97+, take it to Autozone and get them read free.
