Upgrades for Truck

I have a 2004 F150 with the 5.4 in it. Upgrades I'm considering are:

Volant CAI
Larger throttle body
Corsa Exhaust
Engine tuning

Does anyone have any ideas on these upgrades? Are their better ones than I listed?

Volant CAI is a good intake, but its a little loud. It has quite a drone. If you like the close box type check out S&B....

I dont think you'll see enough gain with the throttle body to out weigh the cost.

I have a 2005 and just bought a single in single out Magnaflow muffler, and a 3" brushed tip and had a muffler shop weld them in.......why repalce the whole assembly thats only 3 years old........just a thought.

Tuning.......this is probably where I would start. I would say either a custom tune from troyer or a canned tune from the Edge Evolution........

If I install a CAI will it set a CEL or will I need to have it tuned?

Your best bet, and best bang for the $ would be to get custom tunes. You do run a risk of running your engine lean with the Volant intake, and no it may not throw a CEL until there's been damage.

Best thing to do, and best performance gains, would be to get in touch with Troyer, VMP, Bama.. one of those who can write customized tunes for your truck and your mods. I went with Troyer and couldn't be happier, but lots of folks are happy with others.. Just bear in mind that any "canned" tunes won't be able to address any mods you've made. They're for stock engines.

It really depends on what you want to do. Some people have had problems with intakes and Edge programmers, others have'nt. Im sure the fine people at troyer do a great job with their products. I liked the idea of the edge with all the gauge options. I do alot of towing....,camper,waverunners,race car, so I like to keep an eye on all my temperatures. I went with an S&B and havent had any problems. If you are worried and want to go with the edge instead of troyer look into Airraid, K&N panel filter in stock intake, or look up the Gotts intake.....
