This was the thread where I solved the problem with the fuel filter replacement. It's still fixed.

that cup of goo had the consistency of mud, not milk but mud. It appeared to be rust and dirt. I poured that out of the filter. Luckily the 'filtered' end was pouring what looked like clean gas.
145,000 miles and the filter had never been changed.

Change your filter
some pretty nasty looking gas you got there. pour it on some wood or somthing see if its still flameable lol. chaged my filter not to long ago didnt look like that but i tryed to blow threw it and it took alot of effort.

, I don;t mean to damper your spirits but I do see a lot of pumps go out after a "high mileage" fuel filter change (mostly on G.M. products though). Any information helps, right? All the more reason to replace them.

Well, I'll take my chances and wait for that to happen, as that's not exactly a preventative maintenance item. I'm well aware of GM fuel pump issues, I've NOT heard similar stats on F series products and I have no symptoms of such.
Talk about GROSS...

So, now what do you Guys think the Dirt comes from? I´ve changed quite a few filters but never seen anything like that. Must have build up in the underground Tanks of the Gas Station right? Maybe refilling shortly before they get new fuel delivery?
I bought the thing used at 99k miles from the fleet of a local utility contractor so God knows what or where was going in the fuel department.
Though I have the service records of oil change and what not, this was never an item noted as being R&R.
No idea about the quality of gas around here, there or everywhere as I've bought gas from here to Cali and everywhere in between.

OK, disgruntled employee, then.
Highly doubtful that fuel was pumped like that from a public gas station.
The utility company may have had it's own fuel tank that may have ruptured.
Lucky your fuel pump hasn't started having problems.
You want to think about dropping the tank and cleanig it out or replacing it.

Can I not check my pressure on the fuel rail and sort of see if my pump is working to spec, at least to that end?
I'll pull the *new* filter off in 5k miles and if its gacked up like the old one, then I'll think about doing that. I'll definately update the thread then.
Right now, it's 15'f out, snow and goo all over the driveweay and I'm not doing this inside my garage 5 feet away from a gas heater, lest I get blowed up in a fiery accident.
