I've seen a few neglected fuel filters in my day and I dont think its really unusual for one to be gunked up like that. I would have to think its odd it didnt fail on you sooner. 145k is a long time for one to last. I figure close to 10,000 gallons of gas were filtered though it at 15 mpg..

No idea about the quality of gas around here, there or everywhere as I've bought gas from here to Cali and everywhere in between.

It's amazing that the truck runs as well as it does. See my action in the 100k club.

Daguummmm, you would think a "GOOD FLEET TECH" would keep track of a fuel filter. Normally they are good about the normal stuff. Well, "if it seems relevant, anyways!"

Fords pump stats are much less than the G.M. line of "whatever they want to call those things in the fuel tanks" that they use. Definately not a maintenance item and in no means meant for you to replace it.

I just had my 120000 gal jet fuel tank drained and scrubed after 2 years and did not see anything like that. Jet fuel evan has possibilities of growing microbs.

Update!

Ok, UPDATE.

This is the 2nd fuel filter change after 5,000 more miles. IT looks much cleaner. The fuel still has a slightly muddy color and theres a light layer of particulate but it's much much cleaner.

and more importantly, the truck still runs great and no codes. I'll just keep changing that filter out every oil change till its clean.

I probably DO need to drop the tank on the thing but that's not gonna happen as I have no time for that.

After your Burn on Jbrew, I don't think anyone cares. Read the posts to his
"in jail" thread, he has alot of friends. You will see how many when you have a problem and no-one wants to help you.
Knowing Jbrew, if you do have a problem, he probably would still help you out.
Your support would have been alot better than you judging him.

Check the condition of the fuel pump filter. If the fuel filter was bad I suspect that the pump filter is garbage too. That may be why you are still getting dirty fuel in the filter.

I usually change my filter once a year. The reason is I go hunting and use fuel from jerry cans or 55gal drums which are sitting in the weather...just for ease of mind I guess. I also carry a spare filter in the cab.

AMAZING MAN! You have NO TIME to clean your tank out, but, you have enough time to get online and talk bad about other members. ESPECIALLY, one of the most respected people that contribute more than you OBVIOUSLY have and ever will add to this forum.

I will leave it at that...
