Replace the fuel filter and consider rebuilding the carb.

Are all the adjustments and settings in the carb correct? You can't just take an aftermarket carb out of the box and slap it on an engine without doing a full setup. There are specs to follow.

well the thing is i just bought it and the guy i bought it from said the carb was put on by a machanic.
so assuming that he was telling the truth i would say it was put on correctly.
but u never know.
ive noticed that it runs fine going above 20 mph but when ur just crawling around on a dirt road it stutters alot.
the air cleaner is brand new and the fuel pump is new.
im gonna look io replacing the fuel filter this weekend

That's a bad transition circuit in the carb - the spot between idle and full run. The carb ain't set up right.

It's an easy fix if you can find someone who remembers how to work on a carburetor. Don't take my diagnosis as gospel - it's just what I think it might be from my past experience. Someone who knows what they are doing needs to look at and drive your truck.

It could be as simple as a misadjusted float level - the bouncing around on the back roads could be starving the bowl and it's sucking air.
