I'm going to be changing a friend of mine's plugs on his 02 and his coils are fine with 130k miles on the clock. This is to the best of my knowledge anyways. I believe the coils or boots/wires to wear out over time as any old plug wire and distributor cap use to, it's enevitable.
I've noticed a lot of people want to change their COP's. I'd like to also but I would like to use MSD's model for it's output. I don't know if any one finds these pricey at about $50 ea but I've had real good luck with all their stuff. Of course I will change plugs too. I can't work on my truck like I used to so the labor is gonna be a couple of hundred bucks to.

I wasn't aware MSD made COP's for these trucks. They probably do since you already have them in mind.

You really don't need the extra output IMO - But it can't hurt unless your PCM has a bad reaction to them. This can happen with Granitelli's. I would just go with Globals COP's myself. I have always had good luck with them and there only $85 for the whole set..

I've used MSD for the longest time on both my street/race cars. I've always been a believer of using electronic ignitions. They now have a Dis2 or Dis4 depending on you having a 4.6/5.4L engine. You can go to their website and download their catalog in pdf format.

Oh yea , I know MSD has been around for along time , like Mallory. I know MSD makes Coil Packs as well. I just never seen or heard of a MSD COP system - (Single) Coil Over Plug. :o

I found some for the three valve -

They must be a popular part to have them make COP replacements. If you're racing a 5.4L they come in handy. I found a local company that will even make a fuel injection setup complete. I want them for times I want to nail the engine. I've encountered a couple of times I could have used them and it's only got 33k miles.

I've been searching the world wide web - Found MSD 3valve COP's and MSD Coil Packs for the two valve - NO 2valve COP's Exist from MSD that I can find.

ACCEL's are garbage, haven't heard anything positive about their COP's - all bad . Summit - I know they make some, but haven't heard any reports either way about those.

Hey guys, been reading this thread....Great stuff. BTW I have a '04 Heritage 4.2L V6 and it looks to only have one COP on the left side valve cover. Is this right?

Try MSD's website. I've only found one part number for their COP. They have excellent online tech support also. They sent me a wiring diagram to wire in the two Dis4 units required if I want to buy them (pricey too).

still running like s#*$

well heres the list of things ive done
1. changed fuel filter
2. getting codes p0301& p0305 (#1 and 5 misfiring)
took it to dealer since i didnt have time to fix. they tell me oh its bad coil on #4, wanted to charger 800+ to switch #4 coil. the other 7 boots on the existing coils and all 8 plugs... yea. right. i took it home
4. bought 1 new cop. replaced it in the #4 position, changed all 8 plugs under a hundred dollars. same problem as before it went to dealer.
5. searched on ford chats, decided to swap out all 8 coil packs, did that.. ran a little smoother but still running rough..
6. throwing code p0113 iat sensor.. i accidentally left that unplugged on the intake tube.. oops. plugged it back in.
7. battery is dead from me working on it once a week since i now have a company vehicle. replaced battery which reset the previous code.
8. still runs like its not getting all the fuel it should be. im stumped, dont know what to do next.

What motor do you have ? - Top right corner is were it should display the motor size . Fill that in right and you won't get asked and we won't have to guess.

Mojo Back

I just calculated 15.5 MPG when filling up my truck. I guess the new coils helped out. I was previously getting only a little over 13 MPG. Swapped the old with the Global Automotive coils at 78k.
