FAL E Fans setup

Guys,
I"ve got my fans installed but trying to decide how to set the adjustable turn on temp. At idle it takes forever for the thermostat to open, it probably won't in this cold air. I'm trying to figure out how to set the adjustment screw so that the fans kick on at 180 deg. Feeling the upper radiator hose if tough, sitting still it hardly ever opens the thermostat. How is everyone setting the adjustment screw?

Use the cluster diagnostics function to monitor CHT (which infers Coolant temp) to get you in the ball park. And - 180 is far too low - it's a 192 degree thermostat, stock. Set turn-on for approx 195-200.

For cluster diags - do a search - it's a matter of holding the odoreset button in on first start, then scroling thru the many functions until you see CHT.

A point & shoot also works well.

I used an infra red temp gun on the water inlet into the rad and the Edge. They were close enough of about 2 degrees if I remember.

Yeah i wanted an infrared temp gun but dont know who has one and i hate to buy it for just that. I wasn't aware of the odometer, I'm still learning. Thanks for the ideas guys! I'll probably try to find a temp gun or go buy one and return it after the one use.

I set mine to come on when the stat opened, but it's hard to tell. With an infared, it comes on at 185ish so I gotta adjust it proper.

MGD,
Mine's a 2002, didn't realize what you were saying, what year did the odometer function start?
