1994 f150 code-paper clip

I have a code flashing on my 1994 f150. Local advanced auto cannot read it due to the age. i heard you could do it with a paper clip. How do I go about this?

Thanks Brian

Your local store doesn't know how. They have readers to do it when you go in to buy one.
Self test:
On the test connector and looking at the end with the two pins up and 4 pins down; jumper the outside seperate lead 'close by' to the right pin of the two on top.
This sets up the computer to output either the stored codes or do an engine running test.
The trick is to be able to count the digits as the CEL flashes them and write down on paper.
They should be two digit codes that repeat at least two times.
To begin the output or testing, turn the ignition to RUN so you power up the computer.
The code is read for example a flash of 3 times with a pause then a flash of 5 = code 35. Then you need to interpet the part of the system the code refers to and begin the chase..
To do a running test, make the connection at the test connector after starting.
The motor will react by raising the idle to a fast idle thru 2 cycles for various testing it does, then come back to idle and flash any fault codes found during the test.
To clear codes from memory, start the output process then open up the lead while it's outputting. This will clear all codes so you have a way to test after you do work.
Otherwise buy a reader for about $30 that does the same thing with a switch in it and the connector and seperate connector plugged on. Any reader beyond this is overkill.

Bestus I can do for ya. Good luck.
