specs

exactly how much horsepower and torque does the 2001 f150 xlt 5.4 have. The one I'm talking i'm talking about is also a 7700. I found one I want to buy but not sure due to lack of knowledge on that particular year and type. It has 88,000 miles, 4x4, x- cab, short bed, and he's selling it for $7,900. should I buy it? the only things wrong are what i listed in previous threads(leaf springs, passenger power window, banged up bed). I took it for a test drive and rode really firm but nice I guess. A little bit of vibration at about 45mph but i wasnt sure if it was just the road. everything works accept the passenger window. couple of paint chips here and there but nothing major. engine ran strong, all in all i thought it was a good pick- up but i like second opinons.

Also, this is my first time here so i'm not completely familiar with everything on the site. I was once a member of the teamzx2.com forum but needless to say they are all a bunch of a** holes that think their ***** doesn't stink. My family and I have always been a huge fan of fords now I think I have a shot at finally getting a decent pick- up.

Welcome to the site Sounds nice and that's a fair price.
Here's the Engine specs -

http://www.fordf150.net/specs/engines.php

That vibration is most likely the rear end . When the gear oil begins to break down (lack of maintenance) you get that 45 mph vibration . Changing with the spec 100% synthetic and 4-8 ounces of friction modifier will clear that up in 50-75 miles after it's been properly changed/serviced.

Check the rear U-joints as well , they usually don't go bad with that many miles on her. I have almost 230,000 on my stock U-joints..

Since you mention a "45 mph vibration" - I would change the fluid - 45mph is the magic number fro that problem..

I think the trucks worth the price by your description ..

Good Luck

My u-joints went around 70k. They started squeaking long before there was any vibration. 45 mph vibration can also be tire balance, out of round, or uneven wear.

thanks for the feedback. sounds like a good truck then. as soon as my car is sold I will definetly buy it then. I was looking at the specs you gave me I was curious as to how does the 4.6 and the 5.4 make the same torque and horsepower? and does anyone know what is different about the 7700?

The 7700 is essentially a light duty F-250.

How many lugs on the wheels ?- is there more on the 7700 series ..Mines only 5 lol - seem like they would jump right to an 8 lug.. - or at least a 6..

I've been wanting to learn more about that truck (the series) - I 'll search it out when I have some more time . I 'm curious if they where around in 97 -98 . When I ordered my truck I specifically stated that I wanted everything HD - The best set up I could get for placing trailers in a f150..I haven't heard of the 7700 until recently..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_F-Series

Ford took the aero styling to its conclusion for 1997 with an extremely round nose on the new F-series. The regular F-250 (light duty) was basically an F-150 with the same body panels but with heavy duty axles and suspension, along with odd 7 lug wheels. The F-250 HD (Heavy Duty) was considered in the same series as the F-350. With the arrival of the all new "Super Duty" series in early 1998, but labeled the 1999 model, the standard F-250 ('light duty'), F-250HD (Heavy Duty), & F-350 line was totally dropped and the F-250 (light duty) was offered as the "7700" package for the F-150 (noted on the tailgate emblem).
