Fuel Pressure Regulator help

I've been having intermitent problems at startup. After searching here, it seems to be the FPR. I haven't checked the pressure yet (I will though). Just where exactly is the FPR located on an 01 F150 w/a 5.4? My Haynes manual is of no help.

Are there any special tools needed to change this out? Any time saving tricks?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Why do you believe it's the FPR when you haven't even tested fuel pressure yet? Additionally, you haven't given us any details on which to base an informed opinion. I can't temember any threads where the FPR was the problem, they just don't fail that often on the F-series engines.

Save your Haynes manual in case you run out of toilet paper....

It could be on/near the fuel pump, or, it may be located right on the fuel rail. May look like a small (1" diam) cylinder. I have the fpr on the pump on my 03 Ex. A "dampner" is located on the rail, looking somewhat like what I described.

good advice though to check your pressure first.

Good luck.

Mine was located on the driver side fuel rail. It will have a vaccum line going to the fuel pressure regulator. Mine was held in by a big clip. Before you pull it make sure you release the fuel pressure. Also i paid about $80 for a Ford one. Check it b4 you replace it!!
