Question changing plugs on 5.4 3v

Anything i should know before i change the plugs on my motor? tips or things to look out for, i'm not familiar with the 3v yet and always get nervous working on it. I'm putting in Denso plugs since i have to replace a coil pack anyway.

Denso does not make a plug for the 5.4 3v.
Better do some searchig before you attempt this project...

Try checking the plug for a 2000 F-150 5.4 and see what you come up with.
Even better yet look again at their listing and find the plug for a 2005 F-150 4.2 V6. Sorry to say but they have made a mistake somewhere.

Aside from the plug compatability issue, be sure you search this forum for information on making this plug change. It is not like any other!!! The member, Stealth, has a link to a video in his signature that you really need to watch before proceeding with this job. Ford also has a TSB on the plug change with very specific instructions and time issues to follow. Search these before something breaks!!!

Plug choice is Motorcraft or Autolite. Use only the Kroil or Aerokroil from Kanolabs.com.

Do not change the plugs without having acess to an extracter tool for the plugs.
More often 3-4 will break in the head and you will need the tool. If the insulator/ceramic shatters inside you will prob have to remove the head.

Once the F150 owners feel the pain of these new head design and thier plug inserts breaking off, Ford nightmare is about to begin.

Hello,

Not sure which video you are referring to but there are two trucks at our dealership right now ,one with the cab off and head pulled and one with 3 plug inserts beginning extracted right now. THis is a serious problem with the new 5.4l and even if you follow the pre plug removal procedures you still have a very high risk of insert( bottom half of plug) broken and seized in the head. By the way both trucks had only about 50K KM on them.
I will check again but now Ford wants you remove and inspect the plugs at
50K Km (can you say never sieze) and replace them at 75K KM. They change those values constantly
Hope this helps

There is a link to the video in Stealth's sig - I'm surprised that you haven't seen it if you are a dealer tech.
