Stalling problems
I recently purchased a 2005 Lariat Supercrew with 33,000 miles on it. I drove it for about 3 days before it started to hesitate. Now the idle flutters when I'm coming to a stop and the engine stalls. It does not happen all the time, but after it happens once when driving it will continue to happen until the engine cools down. I had it back to the dealer 3 times now. The first time they said they download a update to the computer. The second time they canceled my appiontment without telling me. The third time which is right now, they are telling me the truck is fine, and they drove it 35 miles with no problems. I personally think the idle is to low, if I leave the A/C on or the defoster it will not stall. Is anyone else having a similiar problem, or can some one help me out.
I've been browsing these forums for a long time now but never joined. I decided that today was the day to join since I recently purchased an F150 and I am having the same problem as you. Mine is at the dealer today for the stalling issue. I haven't heard from them yet but my dad has worked on Ford's for 30+ years and he is telling me that he thinks it is the 'TB sensor' (I'll have to confirm that). He said he had a truck in yesterday with the same problem and this was the issue.
Hope this helps. I will let you know what my dealer says.
EDIT: I haven't tried to leave the A/C or defroster running as you have.

TPS? That's the throttle position sensor and is a likely cause. You have fly by wire in the 04 and newer and don't have an IAC (idle air controller), which used to be a likely cause of idle issues.
MY 05 F150 5.4 is doing the same thing if I roll to a stop and If I do not immediatly hit the gas it will die everytime. I have a diablo programmer so I un programmed it to see if that helped but it still does it with the factory program. I have an appointment at the dealer monday but im sure they will never figure it out I have been in before for simple things and they never seem to get it fixed right. SO if anyone can figure out what is causing this i would love to know so maybe i can tell the dealer how to fix it. THANKS
I heard from the dealer to today and it turns out that there is an issue with a thrust bearing that is causing the oil pressure to be too low. Long story short...Ford is sending a new engine to the dealer to put into my truck. I guess there is a TSB for my issue.
Sucks that my brand new truck is having the engine replaced but it should be good to go once the new engine is in. I don't know if this helps you guys out that are having the same problem. Hopefully, your issues are minor.

Man thats crazy that they are replacing the whole engine hope that fixes it. IM hoping that mine is just a sensor or something cause i have never noticed the oil pressure drop but i will definatlly watch it now and see if maybe mine is doing the same. If so that sucks I just spent 60 bucks on a oil change. I also cleaned my air filter to see if maybe that helps. Thanks for all the info.

My oil pressure gauge never dropped when the engine stalled, stayed right in the middle. My engine light never came on either until I pulled into the dealer's parking lot. The tech said the oil pressure drops on the left side of the engine only.
Anyway, I probably won't get my truck back for a week. But as long as this fixes it, I'll be happy. Hey, I get a new engine out of the deal and everything's covered under warranty.

Truck running fine
Well, I picked up my truck from the dealership after they had it for 3 days, and it is fine. They drove it on 3 different occasions for about 40 total miles. They told me it did not stall on them once. They scanned the truck for codes, and none were found. I was extremely frustrated when I picked up because they had it 3 days and did absolutely nothing except burn my gas!! The tech basically told me that even if it stalled on them, and if the computer is not showing a code they would not know where to start to try to fix it. When I got it back home I change the fuel filter and put injector cleaner in the tank. Its been running great, the fuel filter was nasty when I dumped it out. I anyone hears anything else please post.
Thanks

I had the same thing they kept it two days and told me it didnt have any engine codes which i already knew that since i have a programmer but anyway they then wanted to charge me 75 bucks just for telling me that so we had a big go around and they finally let me go and didnt charge me anything. But i did change my fuel filter myself before taking it up there and it was full of some nasty brown looking fuel so maybe that was all that was wrong with it. I havent drove it much since then but it seems to be doing fine. SO if anyone else has this problem i would suggest fuel filter, clean airfilter, and some fuel additive (i use sea foam) and that seems to have helped mine. i have 36000 miles on mine and i think they recommend changing the fuel filter at 30k anyways.
Well I've had my truck back for a week now. Brand new 5.4 with a build date of 10/02/07. So far, so good. Like I mentioned above, the problem was a bad/incorrect thrust bearing was used when the engine was built - according to the TSB and the service manager. Total cost was a little over $7100 but everything was covered under warranty.
