Fuel log - the last entry, and a first entry!

Well, I finally purchased a new truck. I've been wanting one for a while and finally made the jump.

The old one is a 2001 F150 XLT 4x2 Supercab w/5.4 and a 3.73 limited slip. I've been keeping a fuel log since it was new. And with the exception of a loss of some receipts, the log is very informative of the MPG gains of some mods.

You can view it here:

The new truck is a 2007 F150 XLT Supercrew 4x4. The fuel log for that truck is located here:

Let me know if you have a questions.

That's good stuff. I've been keeping a similar spreadsheet since I purchased my 2007 FX4 S/C about a month ago.

Very interesting. Those mods didnt do anything for that truck because the averages only fluctuated by .5 or so, kind of makes you wonder if any of them do any good! Ive had different brands of gas change the MPGs, Sunoco seems to do the best in mine, but Ive never had a mod increase mileage.

I've heard a similar story about gas brands and mileage. Not so much you'll get better with one, but that some brands do keep the motor cleaner so you don't lose any MPG's as time goes on.

Unless I have to I stay away from Stewart's gas (Northeastern convenience store chain). I've gotten numerous issues with my jetski and snowmobiles that were traced back to water in the gas once, and an exceptionally dirty batch of gas that clogged a filter.

The only cheapest and most effective mod you can do to improve mileage is to mod your driving habits. Instead of flooring it off every stoplight and being generally "heavy on the pedal", accelerate gradually and try to keep RPM below 2000 whenever possible. I noticed easily 2-3mpg gain by driving like grandma, and I get everywhere I need to be in a few seconds more.

I've been using nothing but Shell gas since at least 2005. So the fuel should befairly consistent.

I tried the tactic of driving real easy, but it didn't change anything in the numbers. So I just drive normal and live with it.

FlyerFX4: I'd love to see your spreadsheet. I'm looking for a new format for mine. You can download mine at
http://www.commencetechnology.com/tr.../2007-fuel.xls

If you'd like share send it to deep6blue aatt yahoo dott com.

Thanks

deep6blue - I emailed you a copy of my spreadsheet. There's not much in it yet. It's one that I found on the internet and have tweaked to make work for my needs.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one that does that, I have almost every expense for my truck from date purchased to present, all 367 fillups, and all modifications, maintainence, and recall info. I never want to total it up, it scares me.

I have been doing something close to this since I purchased my 97 the last week of December 96. I have always filled the tank whenever I gassed up to make it easy on my calculations.

I also through in a text sheet where I have tracked the maintenance performed on the truck such as oil, lube etc.

Your spread sheet is more detailed than mine.
