Code P1000, Clearing Question

I'm in the process of getting my truck smogged, but I have this P1000 code that I can't seem to get to go away.

In CA, you can't pass smog check unless the P1000 is cleared. I now it's the emission monitors self tests that are supposed to complete with the proper drive cycles.

What I'm wondering is if there is a way to find out which of the 8 or so monitor tests haven't completed? If I know which it was, then I could target that specifc test with some drive cycles, rather than spend time doing the entire thing.

Anyone know?

Thanks

Get a scanner and go to readiness monitors and it will tell you which ones are ready and the ones that are not. A AutoZone code reader will do that.

He's in California. AutoZones there don't do code reads. However, almost any code reader or scanner will give the readiness test monitor status.

How long has it been since the PCM was reset?

It took my truck around 750 miles to clear the p1000. Most of my driving is under 55 mph, which may not be complete drive cycles?

I did some work last Sat, that was when the PCM was reset. Since then I've driven about 300 miles.

I have a superchips tuner that can read codes, but I've never seen an option to get the readiness monitor status.

Evap system is one of those monitors that has to be ready. If I'm not mistaken, it wont do an evap reading above 3/4 and below 1/4 of a tank of fuel. Also, if it's very cold out it wont do it. depending on year and vehicle weight you may be able to pass with a monitor or two not ready. But with the p1000 it's never gonna pass.

The evap monitor is one of the most stubborn to get to run. My Contour took two months a while back to finally run...

Tuners are not scan tools or code readers although they usually have some DTC reading and clearing capability. You'll have to check your owner's manual to see what features yours supports.

That's correct^^^^

You have to drive smooth - To much slosh in the tank and the EVAP won't run.

The EVAP monitor is picky and a PITA. Follow Scorpio's procedure to quick test.

OK, so after trying the drive cycle thing a few times and 1500 miles later I still have this P1000 code.

SO, I take to the steelership for diagnosis. They wanted to change IAT sensor and reprogram the PCM. Claiming 3 hrs labor & $500!!!!

I know the the IAT sensor takes about 10 sec. to change and most tuners can flash the PCM in a couple minutes at most.

Question is what's a reasonable amount of time & $$ for a dealer to reflash the PCM ??? I'm going to another dealer to have that done
