Question Major Tuen Questions on '97 4.6

About to 'tune' this 167K miles loyal F-150 4.6 - have some questions about parts.

Plugs... I'm looking at Motorcraft. But Rock Auto shows two (2) part numbers - and I'm not sure which one??? MOTORCRAFT Part # SP413 .054 Gap or
MOTORCRAFT Part # SP432 {#AGSF32FMF6} .054 Gap
I'm PRETTY sure I want the SP432, but anyone????

Wires... they were replaced about 95K ago and I figure it would not hurt to replace them?? Think this (rock auto) is the part - but??
MOTORCRAFT Part # WR5934 {discontinued #F8PZ12259LA} Duck Bill .

Lastly, is my 4.6 V8 a COP setup? I thought it was/is, but read a few threads and wondered (no, I'm not doing my own wrenching, just buying the parts).

If the coils are old, do they go 'bad' slowly or do they dump out right away?
And if they GO OLD slowly, how does that effect performance?

Lastly, Oxygen sensors have NEVER been changed. I'm having them changed out... good idea??

Thanks for the help! (forgive the subject spelling, early)

No, yours is not COP (coil on plug), it's wires and coil packs. Changing the O2's never hurts, but I'd only do the front ones. Use Motorcraft or Bosch replacements.

i agree in changing the front 02 sensers. are those the original coil packs?? if so time for a new set, those have to be getting tired at those miles.

I don't know about the coil packs, I have a 97 F150 4.6 and have 209k on the truck and running strong. I don't think the packs wear out, i believe they'll just take a dump at the worst time.

Thumbs up

I've heard that the coils just die and give you an engine light (not that you'd have to be told something is wrong as you coast to the side of the road)... but I'm buying the MOTORCRAFT plugs and the WIRE set... will replace the O2 sensors... thanks for the help folks!!
'97 F-150 4.6 w/169K on it... and as 97 said, it is still a great running truck!

Head over to Motorcraft.com and give them the VIN .. I think those are the wrong plugs unless they changed the numbers on them. SP479 is what I remember..

And bad coil paks won't necessarily give you a MIL - not all the time.

If she's running well then you have nothing to worry about - but double check that part # on the plugs..

Good Luck

Wink

Did go to Motorcraft and did put in the ViN and the SP432 plug(s) did come up. I was also concerned so I called Rock and they said 'they is the ones'! ;^)
Thanks. I hate to buy the wrong plugs....
