Also the guy with the stick how much track experience did they have?

A stick is very dependent on the driver's skill,

Different way to say the same thing.

Yes, I'm going to dodge the first part of your question and get back to your original topic. You have 2 *identical* trucks except one is a 4.6 stick and the other a 5.4 automatic. The engines are STOCK. The difference between a 4R70 and a Mazda 5 speed *and its driver's skill* is a LOT less than the difference in torque and horsepower between 2 engines that are 800cc different in size. The old hot rodder's adage that there is no substitute for cubic inches applies when you are talking about a couple of 3 ton trucks, especially when you are talking stock normally aspirated tunes on each. It wouldn't take too much to tweak the 4.6 to blow off the 5.4, but then they aren't both stock trucks any more, are they?

I don't know about that. My old zx2 I owned that stick on the street but the first time to the strip I **** the bed BAD. With all the flashing lights and looking at the teg beside me who is looking over at me. It was just a whole new enviroment that I wasn't used to, I was all shaky with antisipation, nerves, and adrenaline. I launched too high and also over revved on both my shifts, it wasn't pretty, but when I would catch a light with a similar car on the street I was all over it like a pig in schit almost every time.

This is basically the whole reason for my topic here. I figured the 5.4 and 4.6 were fairly equally matched in a straight line race and with the 5 spd 4.6 I figured it might have an edge on the 5.4 in a race.

Nope - only if the 4.6 was tweaked and the driver was real good with a stick.

In stock configuration the 4.6 5 speed should be faster than the 5.4 automatic in a ¼ mile. Out of the hole the 5 speed is faster if you know how to launch. The drive train loss on a 4.6 5 speed is less then the 5.4. The manual sucks less power as does the 8.8 diff. Don't forget the 5.4 has the 9.75 rear diff. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt.

In Mach 1's, the standard cars revved out almost a grand farther than auto cars. No one really is for sure why this is, but it likely has to do with the cast 6-bolt crank in the auto vs the forged 8-bolt crank in the standard. Comparing a standard Mach 1 to an auto is like comparings apples, to ...i don't know...green apples or something.

Today's automatics, you make me laugh. The sequential manual trannies in the Ferrari exotics have only been able to claim that in the past few years. That is electronically controlled manual transmissions. These trannies have no pumps and no wet clutches, just a electronically controlled clutch at the fly wheel. The auto in the F-150 has no such technology to speak of. As stated above, the auto suffers higher driveline losses than a stick. With good drivers in stock trucks that would be a damn close race. Even lifting off the throttle a semi skilled driver can shift faster than than the stock program on auto.
