Good info but in this thread we are talking about GASOLINE and that quote is about engine OIL. Little bit different there bud, but still good info for those that try to use the "magic in a can" solution.

Supposedly fuels with higher-than-normal sulfur content can foul fuel senders, causing erratic fuel readings. Ford's "fix" is to dump a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner in the tank and tell people to use a different brand of fuel.

While we are talking about fuel here's something I found interesting... Every ford I have ever owned, 99 Ranger, 68 Mustang, and every ford my parents have owned, 89 Ranger, 91 Ranger, 98 Explorer, 02 Escape, & 00 Contour have all ran like crap on Arco gas. Fastforward to today, I go to fill the first tank of fuel up in my '07 F150 and what does the gas cap say? "Ford Recomends BP Fuel"... BP... the company that owns Arco... I don't know if their gas has gotten better over the years or what but that struck me as kind of odd...

Anyway, back to Techron...

That's funny - when I was out in CA last spring my truck ran great on Arco. Now, I do know that Arco used to have MTBE in their gas - maybe that's what your vehicles were running like crap on. I put a tank of Kum & Go gas in my truck around here a couple months ago, it had MTBE, and it ran terrible. My truck so far is happy on any pure gas and E10 that I've come across.

Our mechanic at work told me to run Chevron for the Techron in my '00 & '03 5.4 work trucks. I have no idea if he knows what he's talking about, or if he just own Chevron stock.

why would you add octane boost if you are all readay using 92 octane and tuned for it? i've always used BP in my Built mustang and f150 without any problems.

Octane boost CAN cause damage depending on what's in it.

would

Techron killed my father..

LOL, no, just had to say that...

Ford has the BP stickers on the gas cap covers because BP PAID Ford to put them there... it's just an advertisement

Use your heads guys, why would Chevron, or any other retailer, advertise an additive that would harm millions of engines?

Would you join the class-action lawsuit?.. I would..

I use Chevron, Texaco, sometimes Shell exclusively... Their coffee can't match Exxon's, but they haven't ever broken any of my engines by adding fix-a-flat type gumminess to their fuel..

I was just happy with any American gas, it's cheaper in comparison to Canadian and has a better octane, 93 is common in the US, where now 91 is considered premium in Canada. I found the truck ran no different on any brand though, more bp's on a recent trip and they seemed to be good. BP has gay commercials though, like a crazy trip on shrooms in the 60's with the wacky kids driving past abandoned gas stations. F'd up, but Techron is good stuff.

this is NOT reccomended to do ofted but a couple times while i was in the military i used 1/2 a quart of JP8 in a tank of gas, works similar to the cleaners on the market, except its ALOT stronger. incase your curious what JP-8 really is take a look here...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JP-8

its a multifuel used by the govt. everything from HMMV's to jets.

When I bought my truck, the dealership filled the gas tank with Chevron 87. I've always used Chevron 87 and I've never had any issues.

Taken from an Auto Repair column, Feb 2006:

By Junior Damato

There are a couple of good products that you can add to the gas tank every three months to help remove and eliminate carbon deposits. Techron by Chevron and products by Wynn's are the two I use at my shop. There are also professional services available for carbon deposit removal at some repair shops. A professional decrabon treatment has much stronger chemical than any type of cleaner that goes into the gas tank.

I just changed my gas filter and then added a bottle of Techron. Runs great.
