What am I in for ?

I've just bought a 2000 lightning w/ 120k and it runs out great (love F150's anyway) but was wondering about a few things like;

1) if the S-charger belt breaks..... will the engine still get me home?

2) Is the auto/transmission good, it doesn't have any leaks or slippage right now?

3) Is the ring/pinion harder than usual to change because it has a 4.11 now and I'd Reuther have a higher gear in the low 3's

If this isn't the right place for this, please let me know?

Little things like capital letters, commas, and proper grammar sure go a long way.

On the 4.11 diff, I was just thinking that because most of my driving will be on the road --------- a 3.26 rear-end would pay for itself in better MPG .

As for the belt, I just don't know what would happen if it broke.

I assume that the engine has a timing chain so I just need to really keep a close eye on this blower belt.

Why not just replace the belt now, then carry the old one with you as a spare? In case it does break.

Run synthetic ATF, in fact change the fluid and filter now.

Should not be any harder than a normal rearend gear change, but I agree with the previous comment it is probably cheaper to find a complete rear to swap from a junkyard.

Yes, I don't have a problem replacing belts, fluids and etc.

I was just wondering if the engine would run at all to get me home or any where if the belt broke ---- like a limp-home mode or what ever.

As far as the rear-end goes, wouldn't it be a problem finding a positive-traction rear-end Assembly in a junk yard??

You may want to ask that stuff in the Lightning forum.

belt breaks, no big deal, you can get home. Tranny is good now, its good to go! Who cares who owned it, if it checks out good, then its good. ring/pinion is no different than any other axle.
