1997 4.2l vin 2 hp?

i have the 97 4.2l jasper reman in a mint body installed within the last 6 months, k&n intake changed the exhaust to 3" high flow with headers, can i ever reach the cid # to the horsepower # or do i have to chane engine components? from what i gather from the exhaust and intake the hp goes up by 7 hp intake, 20 from exhaust, the ford specs are 205hp stock its a 256 cid am i wasting my time and money? or buy modules and a programmer?

You want 255 horsepower from your 255?

Yeah, you're going inside the engine to get that kind of jump. Change the cam, head work, valves, et al.

You aren't getting 20 HP's from just an exhaust alone or a programmer alone. Changing an intake (I assume you mean the intake tube and filter, not porting/polishing the intake manifold) won't do much by itself, either.

Yeah i got a tow.... To find your limits you ahve to push... I push the mud... THats what i live by. LOL

To get true power your guna have to tear your girl apart and think about cams and what not. But a tuner will help a bit. I think that they make supercharger kits for yours as well... I might be wrong. LIke i said you can do anything with enough money!!

I have never looked at the 4.2 but i know a lot of people on here as well as mustang sites calim you can get a bunch of power out of tehm... But it takes $'s. To me it isn't worth it. There is not excuse for displacment. Its just depends on whats it worth to you. Im sure that for $3000 You could find a doner 4.6 with computer and all and put it in and see a big differance and that might cost as much or less and be easier. Thats just my View.

That sucks that you hydralocked it. Thats no fun. Had people do that iwth seafome b4. It sucks. I hope you get where your trying to get to. I do know that chevy has more aggresive cam's in there trucks so that higher in the band they create more power.

To get any real hp out of your motor you are going to have to go s/c or turbo. The 4.2 is a stroked 3.8. Its a pusrod motor, so only one cam. I dont remember ford putting a 4.2 in a stang, but the truck stroker is a popular v6 mod. Underdrive pullies, electric fan, gears, apply and will make the truck feel stronger in acceleration. You can do that without tearing into the motor. Also an old stang trick (v8 anyways) is higher ratio roller rockers which give you a little more lift at the valve and the roller bearings reduce friction. You might want to try stangnet or corral (mustang forums) to see what those guys are doing. There is a v6 tech section.
