also the tool should work the same on both the front and back clips. but like i said i didnt take off the tube, but mine looks like what you described.

oh im sorry, i just had one line in one line out. the line in did have a clip about 4" back from the main connector, is this what you are talkking about?

it works just like the front side, you have to slide the tool in the tube, then gently pull the filter out. if you pull the filter and the tool oposite ways, you will be working against yourself. pull the filter and tool in the same direction, and pull the tube GENTLY the opposite.

Do Not Break The Blue Clips!!!!!!!!!

You have to be careful not to break them things; I think it will cost you dearly to replace the line. Rockpick (I think) had placed an article on how to replace these using a pick to open then blue clips. I actually used a bent paper clip as a homemade pick. You have to pick out the middle and then squeeze together. Search for his article; it helped me and I am an idiot when it comes to mechanics. Good Luck

the good thing about it is that if you use the fuel filter tool, you dont have to worry about breaking the clips!

ah here it is, looks like you push down on the orange clip and not pull it out with a screwdriver i stuck the retaining clip that came with the filter in there but it dont seem to fit right. drove it around past few days and seems to be fine though. anybody konw how much that second length of tubing costs?

The quick disconnect tool does a great job disconnecting the blue clip. The tool only costs 5 dollars. You should not use a screwdriver or anything else to disconnect the blue clip, you will most likely break it. If you break it, do a search there is part number for it. Someone on this forum only replaced the clip without replacing the whole fuel line.

Do a search, Ford just recently came out with the replacement clip. The thing is not supposed to be removed, the tool just slides out, after you put the new filter on, you push it back in.

People are breaking the blue clips by not using the disconnect tool. That's why Ford has blue clips replacements.

Question

I have yet to crawl under my 07 F150 to see the new fuel filter design. Is it not the same design like my 97 F150 was? Why does Ford like to screw up simple things like trying to remove/install a fuel filter?
