Had a friend years ago with a Taurus wagon with a 3.0 - it never got better than 21 MPG on the highway - the expected mileage *should* have been around 27 - he had the thing dissected with a fine toothed comb and absolutely EVERYTHING was within specs.

on a related note, i've always gotten better fuel economy than the epa rating in every vehicle i've ever driven--even upwards of 20% better in some cases with manual trans, so i'm not entirely sold on the idea that i've always driven a 'good' example of each vehicle...imo, there are too many variables to discern one deciding factor, although i do think that the driver is the biggest variable

i don't drive a truck, but i have relatives and friends who do--maybe you've met them?...and thanks for the comment, but i'll stick with my briggs & stratton
