Break-in and MPG
Driving habits have a greater effect on gas mileage than any other factor. These things are trucks built to work - if you try to drive them like cars, playing games with ricers, the mileage is gonna suck.

How's V6150.com doing for ya? Eh, may I ask, why all the scramble/postings on one day? Or do you miss me?
Yeah, I miss you guys too... but that site was messed up brother... until it comes clean like f150online.com is, then I *might* return. But who knows....
Anyways, I've been averaging about 21 mpg as a cumulative average on tanks with the 4.10's.
Configuration, even factory, I believe might play a factor in a few mpg difference. I've seen configurations with 3.55s turning the 20 inch rims Ford has. I would assume this would be different(maybe only slightly) as compared with a truck with 17s and 3.55s. Ford likes to mix up the tire sizes, rearends, etc. I wonder if this plays a factor in a few mpg difference in our trucks????
17.5 mpg highway. 16.5 in a headwind on the highway. 13.7 city driving. 10.9 mpg with a 6500lb trailer on the highway. My 07 4x4 got around 10mph the first week that I had it, 14-15 on the highway. They do get better with age. Not sure about years, but definately get better in the months to come.
14/17 Mpg
2000 F150 ExtCab 4.6L Windsor and VAGINA 3.08 rearend.
If i keep shifts under 2500 it gets the same gas mileage all the time.
I can't wait for the 3.73s to go in. I have been traveling like a ***** and I am ready to get home and give her (and the Mrs.) some TLC. See my sig for mods and ignore the 4.10 quote. 3.73s are just more practical for me as I use her as a daily driver the majority of the time and the trip to work being 8 miles from door to door or there abouts. My highest mileage was on vacation from texas to virginia. 20.12 +/-

Nice to see you have nothing better to do than stalk me.

I only get about 16 mpg on the highway, which accounts for the majority of my mileage.
I have a 2007 5.4L F150 Supercab, 4x4, 3.73 ratio limited slip axle, flex fuel. I am assuming that the fact that it has a flex fuel engine, and is a 4x4,accounts for the fact that my gas mileage is much worse than my 2001 F-150 4x2 supercab with the small (4.2L) V6 engine.
Any thoughts?

the flex fuel engine idea is something i've often wondered about--i'd be interested in seeing comparisons of mpg figures between ffv and non-ffv...using gasoline, not E85...
...all in all though, i think it has more to do with the driver than anything else
I drive mine pretty hard. I like to get up and go, so no slow starts. I get between 16.5 to 17 around town and commuting. I get 19 to 19.3 on the highway driving 75 to 85. I lose about .5 mpg when they add 10% ethanol. I get the best mpg when running 93 octane with the Edge on level 3, plus it is more responsive. It's a 4X2, 5.4, 3.55 LS, Supercrew. I have almost 57,000 on it and have kept records of all gas purchases and mileage since new.

i agree it should, just wondering if it does
in the grand scheme of reported fuel economy i've seen or heard, there's really not a lot of difference...it's the lows of 11-12 reported by people who claim to drive with a gentle throttle in stock pickups that don't make a lot of sense--that's over 30% difference from the 16 mpg that many of us get in city driving...no way to tell if it's because of the driver or the vehicle without a scientific test, but one of the few variables in the vehicle is the ffv engine, so i'm interested in the data
I doubt any difference would be as great as normal variance between particular engines. Let's take 2 IDENTICAL trucks - and drive them side by side EXACTLY the same way from day 1 - I'd bet the mileage will not be identical.
Had a friend years ago with a Taurus wagon with a 3.0 - it never got better than 21 MPG on the highway - the expected mileage *should* have been around 27 - he had the thing dissected with a fine toothed comb and absolutely EVERYTHING was within specs.
