Radiator/Water pump?

Hey,
All summer long I haven't added any water to the radiator.
I've been running the air all summer.
Yesterday had to add about 1/2 a gallon coolent.
Then today only drove about 1/4 mile.
After the truck sat for 1/2 a day, had to add some more coolent.
Could the radiator cap be bad?
Also could just about 1/2 gallon low on coolent cause the check engine soon light to come on?

Is it leaking? Do you look where you park? I doubt its burning that much... and no the cel wont come on unless you overheat it.

 

Or the other tell tale sign, any smell of anti-freeze? If it's leaking, you'd smell it.
