Exclamation Starter Grind?

this happens rarely but becoming more often.. sometimes when i turn the key the starter will make a grinding noise, as if you where starting it while the engine was on. then i stop cranking and try again and its starts fine.

i recently changed the battery because the old one couldn't hold much of a charge and i was often stuck trying to starting with very low battery power and would rarely get it started.

Could this be why this is happening? or something else?
