Getting Codes
Getting Codes
I don't have an Autozone nearby and would like to pull my codes. (Service Engine soon light just came on.)
Is there a connector to jump certain terminals with a test light and clicking the ignition that will show them up (like my Ford T-Bird SC)?
Also, is there a master listing of these codes assuming I am able to figure out what I have?
Thanks for the help. I searched this forum and couldn't find anything.

You need an OBD-II code reader. They are not that expensive for a basic one.
You should have a PartSource nearby, no? They'll do it too.
Code list: http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/
Also see here for more info: http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdi...&menuIndex1=17
Finally, if you invest in a flash tuner, they usually also include basic code reading/CEL-clearing functions.... fyi.

Nobody around here does code reading for free.
I started to think I'd like a decent reader and then I see that some chip programmers can give codes too. Has anyone tried the Jet Performance programmer? They claim 16-18HP increase. The Hypertech site advertises a whopping one (1) HP gain. I'm still undecided on the reader vs a programmer. A few more bucks may be worth spending on the programmer. Any thoughts?

I just ordered from Scangauge. Hopefully they send the newest version.
What about any success stories about a specific chip or programmer? Is it worthwhile on a normally aspirated engine?
